The Hyaluronic Acid Trap — Why It's Drying Some Skin Out

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Here's something about hyaluronic acid that surprises most people.

Used incorrectly… hyaluronic acid can actually dry your skin out.

I know. It's the ultimate hydration ingredient. How?

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It draws moisture. But it draws moisture from wherever moisture is available.

In a dry climate… or on skin with a compromised barrier… if there's no moisture in the external environment to draw from… HA pulls water from the deeper layers of your own skin… and pulls it toward the surface where it then evaporates.

Net result? Tighter, drier skin.

The fix is simple. Apply HA to damp skin. Then seal it with an emollient or barrier cream immediately after.

Lock in the moisture you just attracted.

Hyaluronic acid is extraordinary. But like most things in skincare… context matters.

May your skin glow as brightly as your heart.
