Antioxidants in Skincare: What They Actually Do

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Let's talk about antioxidants. Because this word gets used constantly… and understood rarely.

Free radicals are unstable molecules created by UV exposure… pollution… stress… and normal metabolism.

They damage collagen. They disrupt cell membranes. They accelerate visible aging.

Antioxidants neutralize them.

Vitamin C. Vitamin E. Niacinamide. Green tea polyphenols. Resveratrol. These are some of the most studied.

When applied topically in stable, well-formulated products… antioxidants add a protective layer against environmental aging that SPF alone doesn't fully cover.

Morning routine? Apply an antioxidant serum… then sunscreen. They work synergistically.

But stability matters. Vitamin C in particular degrades quickly when exposed to air and light. Look for airtight, opaque packaging. And formulations that stabilize it properly.

May your skin glow as brightly as your heart.
