Mineral vs. Chemical Sunscreen — Which Is Right for You?

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

If you've ever stood in the sunscreen aisle feeling completely overwhelmed…

This one's for you.

Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. They sit on top of the skin and physically reflect UV rays.

Better for sensitive skin. Post-procedure skin. Kids. Anyone with reactive or barrier-compromised skin.

They go on white. Though modern formulations have dramatically improved this.

Chemical sunscreens use organic compounds that absorb UV radiation and convert it to heat.

They go on clearly.

They blend better under makeup.

But for skin that's inflamed, sensitive, or in recovery… that heat conversion can be an irritant.

My go-to recommendation for most patients? A well-formulated mineral SPF30 or higher.

Every morning. Rain or shine. Indoor or outdoor.

Your future skin will thank you for it.

May your skin glow as brightly as your heart.
