Skincare for Kids: What Parents Get Wrong Most Often
By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA
Today this one's for the parents.
Your child's skin is fundamentally different from yours.
Thinner.
More permeable.
A still-developing microbiome.
And far more sensitive to the ingredients in adult skincare products.
The mistake I see most often?
Parents using adult cleansers, toners, or sunscreens on children's skin.
Fragrances that are tolerable to adults can cause real reactions in children.
Essential oils used in "natural" kids' products can be sensitizers.
And chemical sunscreen ingredients shouldn't be used on children under six months.
Mineral SPF only for babies.
For kids with skin concerns — eczema, acne, rashes — the instinct to treat aggressively usually backfires.
Less. Gentler. More consistent.
The goal is to protect their barrier while it matures. Not to challenge it.
May your skin glow as brightly as your smile.
