Sugar and Your Skin: Glycation Explained Simply
By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA
I want to explain a process that's silently aging your skin every day you ignore it.
Glycation.
When excess sugar molecules in your bloodstream attach to proteins like collagen and elastin… they form what are called advanced glycation end products.
AGEs.
AGEs make collagen fibers stiff and brittle. They reduce skin elasticity. They contribute to dullness and uneven tone.
And once glycation has occurred… it can't be fully reversed topically.
This is aging from the inside out.
The solution isn't perfection. It's a reduction.
Reducing refined sugar. Managing blood glucose fluctuations. Supporting antioxidant intake to slow the process.
Your skincare routine matters. But what you put in your body… is part of your skincare routine too.
May your skin glow as brightly as your heart.
