What Is HOCl and Is It Actually Good for Your Skin?

What Is HOCl and Is It Actually Good for Your Skin?

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Today I want to talk about an ingredient that's suddenly everywhere.

Hypochlorous acid. HOCl.

You've seen it in post-treatment sprays… acne mists… sensitive skin routines.

And the truth is… when used correctly… it can be genuinely helpful.

HOCl is antimicrobial… anti-inflammatory… and gentle enough for post-procedure skin.

But here's what most brands won't tell you.

Misuse it… and it backfires.

Used too frequently on an already inflamed barrier… HOCl can actually sustain the inflammatory loop it was supposed to calm.

It works best as a targeted tool. After procedures. During acute inflammation. Not as a daily toner applied to reactive skin indefinitely.

Context matters. Timing matters. And understanding why you're using something…

matters more than just using it.

May your skin glow as brightly as your heart.
