Exfoliation: How Much Is Too Much?

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Today I want to talk about exfoliation.

Because almost everyone is doing too much of it.

Exfoliation — done appropriately — removes dead cell buildup, improves texture, and allows products to penetrate better.

But done too often? Or with too many exfoliating products simultaneously?

It systematically destroys the cohesion of your skin barrier.

I see this constantly. Patients using a glycolic toner, a BHA serum, a physical scrub twice a week, and a retinoid at night.

Each one individually might be reasonable.

Together? It's a barrier assault.

The result is skin that looks raw, reactive, and increasingly sensitive over time.

For most skin types… one to two exfoliation events per week is sufficient.

And when your skin is already compromised? Zero. Until the barrier is restored.

More is not more in skincare.

Often… it's the opposite.

For personalized exfoliation guidance…

May your skin glow as brightly as your smile.
