Screen Time and Skin: Is Blue Light Really a Problem?

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Let's look at one of the more debated topics in modern skincare.

Blue light from screens and your skin.

Here's the nuanced answer.

The evidence that blue light from screens causes significant skin damage at typical exposure levels is… not strong. The intensity of blue light from a phone or computer screen is dramatically lower than solar UV radiation.

However.

Two things are genuinely documented.

First: the heat generated by screens — particularly prolonged use close to the skin — can contribute to a condition called erythema ab igne. Persistent warmth and infrared radiation can stimulate pigmentation.

Second: screen time correlates strongly with sleep disruption. And disrupted sleep is one of the most potent accelerators of skin aging we know of.

So the screen-skin connection is real. Just not always the direct route that some marketing suggests.

The intervention? Blue light blocking glasses for sleep quality. And treating your phone as a sleep and stress management issue… not just a skin one.

May your skin glow as brightly as your smile.
