The Correct Order to Apply Your Skincare Products

By Dr. Lazuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Lazuk Cosmetics® | Esthetics® | Alpharetta, GA

Today, let's talk about the correct order to apply your skincare products.

It matters more than people realize. Because the wrong order can render ingredients ineffective — or create interactions you don't want.

The principle is simple. Thinnest to thickest. Most water-based to most oil-based. And active ingredients are applied to the cleanest, most receptive skin.

Morning: Cleanser. Hydrating toner on damp skin. Antioxidant serum —

Typically, vitamin C. Eye cream, if you use one. Moisturizer. Mineral SPF lasts.

Evening: Cleanser. Hydrating toner.

Treatment actives — retinoid, peptides, or targeting serums. Richer moisturizer or facial oil to seal.

A few nuances.

Retinoids go on after toner but before moisturizer. Buffering them with moisturizer before or after reduces irritation when starting.

SPF always lasts in the morning. Never before moisturizer — it disrupts the film.

Acid toners and retinoids typically shouldn't be used the same night.

Simple when you know the logic.

May your skin glow as brightly as your smile.
